River Tees and Historical Middlesbrough

The journey of the River Tees from Source to Mouth, with a focus on the development of Middlesbrough, industry and the Transporter Bridge

 

Itinerary:

 

• Beginning with a classroom based presentation on the River Tees from source to mouth, looking at physical geography river features such as waterfalls, meanders and tributaries along it's course.
• Considering why and how Middlesbrough developed from a small hamlet to the large town we find today. Focus on Bell's Ironworks and the Transporter Bridge.
• This is followed by a visit to the working River at Port Clarence next to the Transporter Bridge.
• After lunch, the children will visit the North Gare beach to see the river mouth and build models of the river, from source to mouth.
